Gabriela Gordillo and Sebastian Six, from the bb15 collective in Linz, Austria, have released a tape, Minute/Year 2020, as part of bb15’s ongoing tape release series. The release comprises interwoven excerpts from the six hours of one-minute-long recordings that were created by our durational installation work Minute/Year throughout the entirety of 2020 — the year that the installation was in situ in bb15.
The release is limited to 120 copies, in custom card sleeves. Copies are available on the bb15 Bandcamp page, which has two excerpts available to listen (one from each side of the tape).
The tape was launched at an event in bb15, Listening Back: Minute/Year 2020, on September 3., 2021, at which we gave a talk about Minute/Year, alongside live performances by Daphne Xanthopoulou and Błażej Kotowski. Our talk, “Nine Streaks,” outlined nine separate visual traces, or ‘streaks,’ that had arisen within the archive of spectrogram images generated by the work over the course of 2020. In the course of the talk, we placed prints of each ‘streak’ in turn on the wall behind us, forming a grid of images of these excerpts.
